Zeus Pod Drive

Pod Drive

In 2005 Volvo Penta introduced the first IPS pod drive at the London Boat Show. A couple of years later Mercury Marine followed with the introduction of their Zeus pod drive. Both systems revolutionized the marine propulsion industry. With tremendous gains having been made in fuel economy along with increased performance and handling.

With such performance gains came the unexpected losses because of marine fouling on the pod drives. After months of testing, Barnacle Zapper arrived at a solution to this problem. We have mounted our Smart 18 transducers to the inside surface of the pod’s mounting bracket. This allows for our transducers to transmit ultrasonic sound waves directly through the pod drive. By doing this we are creating an ultrasonic barrier to prevent the growth of algae and barnacles, allowing the pod drives to achieve their optimum performance.
